The West Coast
No visit to Corfu would be complete without a visit to Pelekas, a small village built near the summit of a beautiful 270-metre hill. From the “Kaiser’s Throne” – where Kaiser Wilhelm II used to come and sit – one can enjoy the world-famous panoramic view and splendid sunsets.
Along the coast to the north of Pelekas is Ermones, a small bay with cliffs and wooded hills and a large hotel complex built on the hillside with a wonderful beach. Archaeological excavations have uncovered the remains of a Bronze Age hamlet here.
To the south of Pelekas there are a number of resorts with long sandy beaches, including the popular Agios Gordis and Glyfada with restaurants and bars open round the clock as well as Kontoyialos with its tavernas along the water’s edge.
Also of note in the western area of the island is the traditional village of Sinarades, a large, well-preserved village with buildings from the Byzantine and Venetian eras. Here, you can also pay a visit to the folklore museum.
